From Forrest R. Lott, Hull 34, Andiamo

Design considerations – We wanted the arch to blend visually with the lines of the boat.  Also we wanted enough tube size for strength and wiring capacity.  The davit lifting points could be further aft for a direct lift without fouling the stern.  We place a fender between the dink and stern while lifting.

Accessories – The radar, GPS, Satellite radio, AM/FM and Wi-Fi antennas are mounted on at the center (for radar) or outboard for the rest to allow space for a couple of future solar panels.  The stern running light was moved under the radar to avoid being blocked by the dink.  There are two halogen spreader light facing aft for boarding and hoisting in the dark.  It is controlled from he pedestal.  There are four microstar lights on the middle bow facing into the cockpit.  They are controlled by the factory installed remote and together with the dodger lights make the entire cockpit nicely illuminated at anchor.

Construction – There are three different Stainless tubing sizes used and the wall thickness was varied until the best for bending size was determined.  The forward frame is tied into the stern rail for added stiffness.  All four attachment point have added ¼” backing plates.

Hoisting – We used Garhauer’s 6:1 tackle.  To get a correct lead for the fall to run through the cam cleat we route it over the lower bar of the reinforcing frame.  From there it is a doable hoist for a reasonable strong person.  If I am hoisting it alone I’ll run the hoisting line under the jib turning block and back to the primary winches.  The winched make it super easy to raise and lower the dinghy. The are two cleats on either side to facilitate tie off.
